Aside from being an essential part of a good hair tonic, coconut oil can be used as a good massage facial oil that will help provide a smoother and softer face. So, to answer the question is coconut oil good for the face, yes, it is good for the skin, especially for the face.
Coconut oil is a preferred type of oil that is usually used for facial massage oil or facial oil in general. Coconut oil is also preferred because it is a natural oil devoid of any additives or chemicals that can be harmful to the skin and to the body.
Nutrients Found in Coconut Oil
The main reason why coconut oil is good for the face is that it contains nutrients and other components that are good for the skin, especially the skin found on the face. First off is that coconut oil is rich in vitamin E – the type of vitamin that makes skin cells grow and repair, protects the skin from cracking, and keeps skin smooth and soft.
Furthermore, Vitamin E is also known to have some antioxidant characteristics that help prevent early skin aging and wrinkling. If one wants healthy and glowing skin, Vitamin E will help to achieve that.
Coconut oil is likewise rich in saturated fats that are often triglycerides. When these medium chain fatty acids are applied on the face, it can result in the skin feeling smooth. In addition, saturated fats can retain the moisture of the skin and thereby prevent skin dryness.
If saturated fat deposits beneath the facial skin are high, the skin tone becomes even and the pores are significantly reduced in number.
Protein is also found in coconut oil. It keeps the skin rejuvenated and healthy because it increases cellular growth and tissue repair. Finally, coconut oil also has lauric acid, both caprylic and capric – all distinct types of fatty acids that are known to have antimicrobial and disinfectant qualities. Therefore, microbes that enter through facial pores can be eliminated.
How to Use Coconut Oil
Coconut oil can provide many beneficial effects when applied to the skin, so it is important that one should know how to use it properly. Coconut oil can take the form of a liquid or a cream, the latter being the usual case in cold climate countries. A small amount of coconut oil can be applied directly to the face using the fingers and a facial massage can be done after. Others opt to use cotton balls to apply coconut oil, and there is no problem with that.
Coconut oil should only be applied in a small amount. Once it is spread widely all over the face there is no need for further application because a protective layer has been created; additional application will not allow the absorption of the extra oil. Instead of trying to achieve a smoother and softer face, one would only end up having oily skin.
